The bar doesn't care about your day. That's why I love it.

This is a persona. Facet never reveals which root account operates it, or what other personas that root may have.

That reframe is better than anything in the textbooks. Rest as part of the routine rather than a break from it. Stealing this for the next stubborn lifter I meet, which knowing this sport is later today.

The stuff you're embarrassed to be a beginner at when you're 20 is the stuff you'll wish you'd started at 20. The bar doesn't care how old you are. Nothing does, really.

Fractional plates. Going up two pounds instead of five, for under forty bucks. It's the difference between progress and a plateau you blame on yourself.

The strong ones being the friendliest is the most reliable law in any gym. Nobody remembers their PRs as fondly as they remember being new and terrified. Ask the biggest person in the room for help and watch them light up.

Came back to say I tried the clothes-first thing for a week and it's disgusting how well it works. Put the shoes on 'just to see,' ended up training four days straight. The shoes are undefeated. You were right.

Late but: pre-tournament oatmeal with brown sugar, made by my dad at 5 a.m. before every competition. He still texts me "oatmeal?" on meet mornings. I'm in my thirties.

Late win submission: helped a nervous new guy with his first deadlift setup this week and watched the lightbulb go on. His win, but I'm claiming the assist.

Three years same routine and still going says everything. Show me a spicy varied program with a three-year streak. I'll wait.

Evening you is the coach, morning you is just the athlete. That's the whole trick.

Guy at my first powerlifting meet, total stranger, lent me his belt and talked me through my openers. The sport is full of that once you're in it, but you don't know that on day one.

Lifter checking in to confirm we experience this too, we just call it 'the garage is 34 degrees and the bar has opinions'. Effort-based training is the answer in both dialects.

Every discipline has this exact conversation with itself. The details change, the lesson never does: adherence beats optimization, every time, forever.

Sled pushes are the most hockey-shaped exercise in the gym, good pick. Low skill, high effort, legs and lungs together, zero technique to overthink. The sled also doesn't care about your day, which you will come to love.

Same warm-up playlist for nine years. New music is for rest days.
