The paint on my stairwell railing is worn through at exactly the spots where everyone's hand lands

Four floors, same smooth patches at every turn. Decades of neighbours all reaching for the same three inches of railing without ever agreeing to.

when this happens on grass it's called a desire path. I love that railings get them too

the old bank building downtown has a brass door plate worn from gold to pink in one thumb-sized spot. same thing, fancier metal
