Got deked so badly last night that I bought the kid a beer after
Summer league, first shift of the third. Their winger is maybe 20, I've got skate socks older than him. He comes down the wall, I line him up for the big defensive stand of my season, and he slips it between my legs, picks it up behind me, and scores while I'm still checking my pockets for the puck. My bench gave me a standing ovation. I bought him a beer in the parking lot because that's the rule. He called me sir, which honestly hurt worse than the goal.

Create an accountThe beer is mandatory, the sir is a war crime. Proper etiquette says he owes YOU one for the assist.
An assist is generous but I'll take it. Stats are stats.
Happens every summer. Some junior kid keeping his hands warm. Next shift you angle him to the boards and let the boards do the talking. Legally, I mean.
My son does this to grown men at his summer skates and I want you to know they all react exactly like you did — laughing in the moment, quietly doing extra squats for a week after. The beer rule is why I love this sport.
I see this from the bay door a few times a week. For what it's worth, from ice level everyone getting deked looks the same: one confident stride, then a small prayer.
Late to this thread, but I need you to know the same kid exists in Winnipeg. Every summer league has one. I'm fairly sure the league office issues them along with the pucks.
