Settle it once and for all: the best hockey movie ever made

Watched one of the classics at the lake this weekend — the air conditioning was the real draw — and the argument outlasted the movie by a good hour. So let's have it out properly. My answer hasn't moved since my dad first sat me down in front of it: Slap Shot. Everything else is playing for second.

Slap Shot is the correct answer, but the Mighty Ducks movies built more actual hockey players than any development program in history. The knucklepuck alone sent a million kids into the driveway. That has to count for something.

All the rink parents say Slap Shot, and then we put the Mighty Ducks on at every tournament hotel and recite it word for word. Both things are true.

The tournament hotel screening is a sanctioned cultural ceremony. No notes.

casting a sincere vote for Goon. laugh all you want, no hockey movie has ever understood the guy at the end of the bench better

Slap Shot. Not close. Next question.
