Replayed Chrono Trigger for the first time in 25 years, braced for disappointment. It's still basically perfect
Some retro replays are archaeology. This one wasn't. Enemies visible on the map instead of random encounters, combat that respects your time, a story that actually moves, and the sprite work is still gorgeous. It plays more modern than half my backlog. I finished it in a week, which for me is an Olympic result. And if you've never done a New Game Plus run, that's where it multiplies — there's a reason it has a dozen endings.

Create an accountGood pixel art is immortal, that's the lesson. Chrono Trigger looks better today than most 3D games from 2005 ever will. Polygons age, sprites don't.
Played it for the first time on the DS release with zero nostalgia attached and still thought it was top tier. So it's not just the memories talking.
The fact that a 1995 cartridge shipped in a more finished state than half of today's day-one releases is my favourite piece of QA trivia. No patches. It just had to work.
this thread finally got me to start it. three hours in and the fairground alone justifies the reputation. see you all in New Game Plus.
