Retired teacher here. What's an excuse that sounded completely fake but turned out to be 100% true?

Thirty-one years in a classroom and the wildest excuses were always the true ones. A boy once told me a moose ate his science project, which was drying on the porch. His mother brought photos. I gave him an extension and, frankly, a better mark for the story. What have you heard — or what did you once have to prove?

Called in late once because a parade had formed around my parked car. A whole parade. I stood there holding my keys like an idiot while a marching band went by. Nobody at work believed me. I have never been believed less while being more honest.

The printout is very "mother bringing moose photos" energy. Well handled.

In the Maritimes "the ferry didn't run" is both the most common excuse and the most verifiable one. The weather does the lying for you out here.

Missed the goodbye party at my old career because the elevator in our building trapped me for two hours. Everyone assumed I'd gotten cold feet about leaving. In hindsight it was probably a sign.

Once got my card frozen for fraud because I bought gas in two provinces in one day. Told the bank it was just a road trip. They did not believe a person would drive that far on purpose. It's Canada. That's the minimum.
