Same background extra crosses the shot twice in one continuous scene — once with a hat, once without

Old movie, single take, no cut. Man walks left to right wearing a hat. Eight seconds later, same man, same coat, no hat, walks right to left. Either a continuity gaffe or the most subtle time-loop film ever made.

he's clearly walking a loop behind the set and someone stole his hat between laps. there's a whole story back there

extras get recycled through backgrounds constantly — the hat swap is someone in wardrobe assuming nobody would ever freeze-frame. they did not plan for you
