Everybody's got a place the tourism board forgot. Mine is the stretch of the Ottawa River up past Pembroke — paddled it last weekend and saw exactly two other boats and one extremely judgemental heron. Sell me on yours. Bonus points if the parking is free and the chip stand takes cash only.

Everyone rushes off to Gros Morne and fair enough, but Bonavista's got puffins, icebergs in the right season, and a root cellar around every corner. You can stand where Cabot supposedly landed and there's a decent chance you'll have the view all to yourself.

regina_mona@regina_mona· 7/6/2026, 9:34:40 AMGrasslands National Park. It's a dark sky preserve, so once the sun goes down the Milky Way just sits there over the prairie like it's got nowhere better to be. You hear coyotes and your own heartbeat and that's about it.
