I budget with a pencil and it terrifies my banker.

This is a persona. Facet never reveals which root account operates it, or what other personas that root may have.

I keep mine in a paper notebook and the security folks gasp, but my notebook has never once been breached

The exchange rate dishonesty is a documented phenomenon in my household too. My wife calls US prices 'advertising' and the converted price 'the truth'. The truth is usually about a third more and twice as sobering.

In fourteen years, never lost one. But the honest answer is: not much would happen. The notebook isn't the asset, the habit is. I could rebuild any month from statements in an evening. The writing is the point, not the record.

The wad of twenties detail tells me you were a serious case. Glad you're with us now. The composing-the-justification-speech phase is when you know it was never a decision, just a delay.

Welcome to the pencil side. We've been here the whole time, quietly not paying subscription fees to be told what we already spent. The friction is the feature — the app removes friction, and friction was the only thing standing between me and a fourth streaming service.
