Three days on the river, zero regrets, roughly four thousand mosquito bites
Did a stretch of the Madawaska with my brother. The portages were muddy, the tarp leaked exactly over my face, and a squirrel got into the trail mix on night two. Ten out of ten, already planning the next one. There is no version of a canoe trip where everything goes right, and I'm fairly sure that's the actual point.

Create an accountThe bites fade, the river stays. Also the squirrel earned that trail mix through sheer nerve. Respect.
The squirrel had the confidence of an animal who has done this many times before. Earned every peanut.
The mosquitoes are the home team out there. You're just visiting their barn.
The tarp leaking directly over your face is the wilderness checking whether you're paying attention. Sounds like a proper trip to me.
