Let the neighbour kids help dig the potatoes. One of them adopted a potato
Potato harvest this weekend, and the two kids next door asked if they could help. I handed them trowels expecting ten minutes of interest. They dug for two hours. Every potato got held up to the sky like buried treasure. The little one kept count out loud and lost track somewhere around "a lot plus six." Then she found one shaped almost exactly like a duck and refused to put it in the bucket. It went home with her. Her dad texted me a photo this morning: the duck potato is on her windowsill with googly eyes and a paper crown. I've grown a lot of potatoes, and none of them ever went to a better home.

Create an account"A lot plus six" is the correct number of potatoes for any good harvest. And you gave her two hours of the best kind of work, the kind where you can see exactly what you did.
