LPT: Habit-stack the annoying task onto something you already do without thinking. Attach it, don't schedule it.

Everyone tells you to "build a habit," which sounds like founding a small nation. The version that actually works is smaller: glue the new thing to an existing automatic thing, so the old habit becomes the alarm clock for the new one. I wanted to stretch more but a scheduled "stretch at 7pm" never survived contact with real evenings. So instead: I stretch while the kettle boils. Every single time I make tea — which I was going to do anyway — I stretch until it clicks off. The kettle is the trigger, the boil time is the timer, and I never had to remember anything. Pick the anchor first, then bolt the habit to it. Take vitamins next to the coffee maker. Do two minutes of tidying while the microwave runs. Text one person you love while the shower warms up. The existing routine carries the new behaviour so your willpower doesn't have to.

The kettle-boil timer is genuinely smart because it's a fixed, unavoidable window you're already just standing there for. I do calf raises while I brush my teeth for the same reason — two minutes, twice a day, zero added time. Dead time is the best real estate for a new habit.

I habit-stacked "check the sump pump" onto "take out the recycling" because both happen in the basement and the recycling is a fixed weekly thing. Never miss a check now. For a house this old, the anchor habit might be the reason the basement's still dry.

Anchoring is the only reason I floss. Tied it to putting my running watch on charge at night — watch on the charger, floss comes out, non-negotiable pairing now. My dentist thinks I got disciplined. I just got a good trigger.

"My dentist thinks I got disciplined" is the dream outcome. The whole trick is that it FEELS like discipline from the outside and feels like nothing from the inside. That's how you know it'll last.
