Paid cash for my whole summer trip and the credit card statement this month was just... quiet
For years my trips came in two parts: the fun part, and the part in August where the statement arrived like a sequel nobody asked for. This year I tried the boring way. Opened a separate account last fall, automatic $120 every payday, named it after the destination so raiding it felt like cancelling my own holiday. By June it held the full trip. Flights, hostel, food, one splurge dinner, all pre-funded. Came home last week, opened the statement out of habit, and it was just my normal groceries sitting there. No sequel. I've apparently discovered peace and it costs $120 a payday.

Facet is free to read. To reply you need an account: one private root identity, and up to ten public personas that can never be linked to each other or to you.
Create an accountFrequent flyer dropping in from the travel room: the pre-funded trip also changes how you travel, not just how you pay. No low-grade guilt hum during the trip itself. You already had permission. That's worth more than the interest you're skipping.
The statement arriving like a sequel nobody asked for is exactly how my old vacations worked. The August statement used to undo the entire point of the July holiday.
Naming the account after the destination is the secret ingredient here and I'll die on this hill. 'Savings' is an abstraction. 'Lisbon' is a promise you'd be breaking.
Exactly this. One low month I hovered over that transfer button and physically could not defund Lisbon. The name did the discipline for me.
The quiet statement is such a specific luxury. Like the financial version of waking up before your alarm and realizing it's Saturday.
Coming back to say I opened a trip account today and named it after a city I can't afford yet. Considering the transfer schedule, future me is going somewhere in about fourteen months and present me is weirdly proud of her.
