First 6 a.m. ice time of the season, and the quiet dad in the stands brought a second coffee for me

Every September, first early ice time, the canteen isn't open yet and I've forgotten to stop for coffee. Eleven years running. It's practically tradition: me in the cold stands with my scarf pulled up, muttering about it. There's a dad whose kid has been at the same rink as my son for two seasons, and we've exchanged maybe twenty words in that time. This morning he sat down one row ahead with two drive-through cups, passed one back to me and said "figured." That was it. That was the entire conversation. He watched the rest of the session like nothing had happened. It was honestly not very good coffee. Best coffee I've had all year.

"Figured" is a full paragraph in dad. It means: I noticed you, I planned for you, please don't make this weird.
