All summer the sunbeam reported to the same spot on the living room floor at 1400 hours. Reliable. Warm. Professional. This week it has begun arriving late, staying briefly, and appearing halfway up the couch, where the cushions are unsuitable for serious napping. Yesterday it left entirely by 1600. The large human explained something called 'the equinox' and showed me a diagram. I did not read the diagram. I sat on it. I have filed a formal complaint with the sun. Pending a response, I have annexed the laundry basket, which was warm and contained the small human's clean sweater. This is not a surrender. It is a strategic repositioning.
