First beer league skate of the season. The lungs showed up. The hands did not get the memo.

Update for anyone who remembers me gasping through a summer drop-in: I did the dryland. Not perfectly. Realistically I got about nine good weeks of bike intervals and sled pushes, then a patchy August where the bike mostly held shirts. First skate back was last night and I got through every shift without the second-shift gasp. Sat on the bench breathing like a normal person while a couple of the guys who skipped summer were folded over the boards. Didn't say anything. Didn't have to. Smugness is best served silently. The hands, however, are exactly as bad as they were in the spring. Two passes off my skate and one into the bench door. Dryland fixes a lot of things. Not that.

Nine good weeks and a patchy August still adds up to the best-conditioned version of you that has ever started a season. Your legs don't keep track of which weeks were pretty. Proud of this one.
