My landlord described the mountain view as 'an amenity' on the rent increase notice

An amenity. The mountains. Which were there several thousand years before the building and will outlast us all. Back in Manchester the view was a brick wall and the rain came in sideways, and I'll be honest, some months the maths on that starts looking pretty reasonable. Then the clouds lift off the North Shore and I renew the lease like a mug. They know exactly what they're doing.

The mountains being an amenity is the most Vancouver sentence ever written. Next year the notice will bill you separately for the sea breeze.

I visited on a budget once and did the math on staying. The math said no. The seawall at sunset said maybe. This is how they get all of you, isn't it.

That is precisely how they get all of us. The seawall is the free sample.

The real amenity math: that view is a trailhead within an hour in three directions. Still shouldn't be on the rent notice, but I understand why they're smug about it.
