Non, je ne fais pas de tourtière en juillet. Voici ce que je fais à la place

Everyone asks. No, the tourtière oven does not turn on when it's 31 degrees, je ne suis pas un monstre. July menu chez nous: blé d'inde boiled in the biggest pot we own and eaten in the yard with too much butter, saucisses from the market grilled until the skin snaps, and a tomato salad my wife makes that I am legally not allowed to describe because I will get the recipe wrong and hear about it. La tourtière will return in December, comme toujours. Summer is for corn and complaining about construction. We excel at both.

corn in the yard with too much butter is the correct amount of butter. also the orange cones bloomed early this year, magnifique season for them.

'Legally not allowed to describe the recipe' is marriage in one sentence. My husband refers to my chowder as 'the soup incident protocol' because of what happened when he guessed the ingredients out loud to my mother.

Boiled corn purist or do you ever grill it in the husk? Asking because I've been soaking and grilling mine and I think I've reached the point of no return.

Grilled in the husk is permitted, c'est même très bon. Just don't tell my father, for him the big pot is sacred.
