Fall migration has reached the window shelf and my cat has taken on full-time employment

This is when the warblers come back through the city on their way south, and a surprising number of them stop in the cedar outside my window. Most of them are in the drab yellow-green plumage that one classic field guide literally files under confusing fall warblers. For a birder it's the best stretch of the year. For my cat it's the busiest shift she has ever worked. She's at the shelf before I'm up, chattering at everything that moves, and she refuses to take breaks. One thing I did this week for the birds' sake: markers on the outside of the glass. FLAP Canada recommends dots spaced about 5 cm apart, because birds read that pattern as a barrier instead of an open gap to fly through. The cat considers the dots an obstruction of her view and has filed a grievance. Not one bird has hit the window.
