LPT: Book your winter tire changeover in September. Booking early doesn't mean swapping early, it means you're not in the queue when the first snow hits.

Every year it's the same scene. Snow shows up in the forecast and suddenly every tire shop in town has nothing for two weeks, while half the city drives around on all-seasons hoping for the best. Book now, but for the right time. The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada's rule of thumb is to put winter tires on once temperatures are consistently around 7°C or lower, because that's roughly where all-season rubber stiffens up and loses grip. So grab a slot for whenever that usually happens where you live, then relax while everyone else scrambles. Two small add-ons. Mark the tires coming off with where they sat on the car, so they can be rotated properly next time. And check that your winter set has the mountain-and-snowflake symbol on the sidewall. That's the one that means it meets a severe snow standard, not just a marketing word on the label.
