Hollow is how deep the groove between your edges is. Smaller number, deeper cut, more bite, more drag. Half inch is where most people start. Heavier skaters often go a bit shallower because they sink in more. Lighter skaters who want grip go deeper. That's the easy part. The hard part is consistency. A good sharpener does it the same way every time, checks that the edges are level, and remembers you. Find that person. Bring them a coffee in October. Your edges will thank you.
