AITJ for telling the neighbour kid I'd rather donate to his school than buy the fundraiser chocolate?

It's that time of year. A boy from down the street, about eleven, rang my bell with an order form: chocolate bars, cookie dough, the works. I told him I don't buy fundraiser chocolate because I end up eating it, which is true, but that I'd happily give twenty dollars straight to his school instead, so they'd keep all of it. He looked at me like I'd asked him to do long division on the porch. Said he needed "sales" for a prize. I gave him the twenty for the school anyway and he left a bit deflated. His mother caught me at the mailbox the next day. She said I'd embarrassed him, that the whole point is for kids to practise asking, and that a donation doesn't count toward his prize. At my old school we kept about a dollar a bar. I stand by the math. I'm less sure I stand by the porch. Am I the jerk?
