Out on the barrens for partridgeberries this morning, and no, I'm not telling you where
Bit early yet, they sweeten up after the first frost, but the patch was red enough that I couldn't stand to wait. Came home with a full ice cream bucket, wet knees, and a sunburn on the back of my neck in September, which is an achievement in itself out here. Every family on the island has a berry spot passed down like an heirloom. Me father showed me ours and swore me to secrecy. Anyone who comes along with me now has to keep their eyes shut for the last stretch of road.
