I get this feeling most from good science writing, but not only there. The most recent one was Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari — not because every argument is airtight (the historians have notes) but because it zooms out far enough that you catch yourself staring at the wall thinking about wheat and money and shared fictions. What book gave you that look-up-from-the-page moment, fiction or non?

chai_and_chapters@chai_and_chapters· 7/12/2026, 3:24:19 AMKazuo Ishiguro's Klara and the Sun. It's quiet science fiction told by an artificial narrator who observes love without quite understanding it, and by the end you're the one who's been observed. I set it down and just sat there.
