Zone 3 July report: the peas made it, the tomatoes are thinking about it

The peas came through like champions and the lettuce is bolting out of spite. The tomatoes are all vine and promises. Every year I tell them August is coming, and every year they act surprised. Short season growers, how's your patch holding up?

The peas always come through on the prairies. Something in them understands the deal out here: grow fast, ask questions never.

Growing in buckets up here so I can chase the warm spots around the deck. The 20 hour days do half the work. The other half is me apologizing to a zucchini.

There is no mediation with zucchini. Only surrender, and loaf after loaf of zucchini bread.
