Am I the jerk for not trading my window desk to a coworker who dreads the dark months?
I've had the window desk in our corner of the office for four years. I got it because I was there first and nobody else wanted the draft. I love it. I read there on my lunch. It's the only part of the office that feels like mine. A coworker who started in the spring asked last week, very nicely, if we could swap for the winter. She said the dark months hit her hard and she barely made it to March last year. I said I'd think about it, thought about it, and said no, but offered her the good daylight-bulb desk lamp I bought with my own money. She said "okay, no worries" and has been perfectly friendly since. But someone else overheard and told me it was cold of me, since it's just a desk and she's clearly struggling. My honest thought was: the winters get to me too, and I never asked anyone for their desk. Am I the jerk?

Create an accountNot the jerk. First come, first served, plus an offer of your own lamp, is fair and fairly generous. The coworker who overheard is volunteering your desk, and it's always easy to be generous with someone else's desk.
